Mark W Ford DVM, is the owner and hospital director of Parkway Pet
Hospital. His responsibilities include overseeing the complete operation
of (1) the medical and surgical facilities, 2) the pet lodging, 3)
client interactive services, and (4) staff training, quality control,
and hiring.
Dr. Ford graduated from the University of California at Davis in 1977
with Highest Honors in Biological Science. He was named Academic
All-American 3 years, and one of 3 NCAA Post Graduation
Scholarships for Academic Athletics. He attained his first doctorate in
veterinary medicine in 1981 from Araneta University in the Philippines.
His specialty in the Philippines was exotic medicine, honing his exotic
skills by working in the Manila Zoo for two years. He received his
second doctorate in 1984 from the University of California at Davis
specializing in canine and feline medicine and surgery
In 1988, Dr. Ford joined
the staff at Parkway Pet as chief of operations. He combined his canine
and feline expertise with founder Dr. James Thomas, initiated the exotic
pet services, created the discount pet supply center, built a lodging
and grooming facility, and staffed a full service veterinary hospital.
Three years later he was named practitioner of the year by his
veterinary management team.
Dr. Ford is a member of the San Diego Veterinary Medicine Association,
California Veterinary Medicine Association, the American Veterinary
Medicine Association, and has been a practicing member of Project
Wildlife, a volunteer native wildlife rehabilitation program that heals
injured wildlife and returns them to nature.
Dr. Ford's passion is as a "Christian Clown", often traveling to Mexico
to share "the Great Commission" with impoverished children. He helps
train and support other clowns as well as missionaries, and is the
director of a local Sunday school.
